چکیده

Circuit-level simulation of complex systems is a challenging task in terms of memory and CPU time. It is thus of great interest to find more efficient methods for circuit-level simulation. At the core of nonlinear circuit analysis is the solution of a system of nonlinear algebraic equations. Solving this system of equations using Newton method requires the decomposition of a large (normally sparse) matrix for each iteration. This matrix is particularly large in the case of harmonic balance (HB) or techniques based on multiple time dimensions [1]. This paper presents a transient analysis approach that requires only one matrix decomposition for a given time step size. This approach was inspired in the multiple reflections technique [2] and wave digital simulation of circuits [3,4]. Wave digital filters [5] were developed to replace analog filters with a digital structure. Several methods have been proposed for transient simulation using waves but they have limitations handling nonlinearities or do not scale well with the size of the circuit. Felderhoff [3] proposed a convergent relaxation method that can treat several nonlinear devices and is easily parallelizable. The method proposed in this paper is also parallelizable and can handle arbitrary static and dynamic nonlinearities.

Spice Compatible Model for Multiple Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Application in Transient Analysis of VLSI Circuits

An SPICE compatible model for multiple coupled nonuniform lossless transmission lines (TL's) is presented. The method of the modeling is based on the steplines approximation of the nonuniform TLs and quasi-TEM assumptions. Using steplines approximation the system of coupled nonuniform TLs is subdivided into arbitrary large number of coupled uniform lines (steplines) with different characteristi...

Closed-Form Analytical Equations to Transient Analysis of Bang-Bang Phase-Locked Loops

Due to the nonlinear nature of the Bang-Bang phase-locked loops (BBPLLs), its transient analysis is very difficult. In this paper, new equations are proposed for expression of transient behavior of the second order BBPLLs to phase step input. This approach gives new insights into the transient behavior of BBPLLs. Approximating transient response to reasonable specific waveform the loop tran...

Power System Transient Stability Analysis Based on the Development and Evaluation Methods

A novel method to compute the stability region in power system transient stability analysis is presented. This method is based on the set analysis. The key to this method is to construct the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs (HJI) partial differential equation (PDE) of a nonlinear system, using which we can compute the backward reachable set by applying the level set methods. The backward reachable set of...

This paper presents a new and efficient transient analysis method for mildly nonlinear circuits. The method is based on Volterra series representation of nonlinear circuits. It characterizes nonlinear circuits using a set of linear circuits called Volterra circuits. The input of the first-order Volterra circuit is identical to that of the nonlinear circuit, whereas that of higher order Volterra...
